Since becoming active in Community Theatre in the Columbia area in 2015, I have been privileged to work with many creative people on stage, silent heroes behind the scenes, production staffs, directors, and more. Somewhere during that almost 10 years, the name Dedra Daniels Mount entered my consciousness through conversations with some folks with whom I’ve performed and shared the stage.

During the year following my concert at Town Theatre, I had an idea to raise money for Island ETC, one of the places I first began performing (it was formerly known as Strand Street Theatre). The theatre had sustained damages from Hurricane Harvey, and my goal was to give back to my hometown.

“25 Things About Me” from January 2009 was the last on this morning’s scroll. This was two months before we decided to move to Columbia, and eight months before I actually made the move. The comments from a couple of friends, long since gone from this world, motivated me to share it here. However, I’ve added a few updates in commentary.

There has been, and likely will continue to be, a great deal of debate over homosexuality through the lens of Christianity and other religions. This includes gay rights, marriage equality, a person’s faith path, discrimination, etc.

A concerned friend recently reached out to me about my social media posts. Specifically, he noticed, over the past few years, that heavier posting was usually tied to something bad going on in my life. That caused me to stop to consider the notion.

“The Nashville Statement” is a tragedy of epic proportions. And that this is the kind of prevalent thinking currently amongst Evangelical (so-called) Christians is all the more tragic.

Bitstrips were a hoot. I miss being able to create really absurd scenarios with friends on social media - especially my brother, Craig.

The year 2018 has been a curious, if informative, year in many ways. It has been a year of change and a year of gradual transition. It has been a year of loss and gaining understanding and insight.

My mother instilled in me my love of music and of performing. When I became an adult, I jokingly called her the Sarah Bernhardt of Galveston. So, yes, I came by my larger-than-life personality, honestly.
